SORRENTO’S undefeated start to the season continued when it thrashed Rye by 110 points on Saturday – and the Sharks only look like getting stronger, with former AFL star Chris Dawes poised to make his Sorrento debut.

Dawes injured his hamstring a few days before Sorrento’s first game but could line-up against Crib Point this weekend.

“Dawes could come in this week,’’ Sorrento coach Nick Jewell said. “We’ll have to see if he gets through training.’’

Former Essendon dasher Andrew Lovett kicked three goals for Sorrento as the Sharks ran rampant against Rye, winning 27.15 (177) to 10.7 (67) to consolidate top spot on the Nepean league ladder.

Full-forward Leigh Poholke booted six goals and Nick Corp won the Anzac Medal after taking a stack of contested marks and kicking five goals.

Zach Byrns, Chad Harris and Danny Stephenson also dominated for Sorrento, which sprinted to an 82-point lead at half-time.

“I think we dropped the intensity a bit,’’ Jewell said. “I think Rye kicked eight or nine goals in the second half – that didn’t please me overly.’’

Red Hill has celebrated its first win at Rosebud since 1985 after leading all the way.

Former North Melbourne-listed forward Ben Hughes booted five goals in the 10.5 (65) to 5.14 (44) win.

Somerville remained unbeaten after edging Pearcedale by seven points, 12.17 (89) to 10.22 (82), in the Postcode Cup.

Ex-Blue Andrejs Everitt kicked three goals and Billy Rolfe starred along with Kane McKenzie and Adrian Speedy for the Eagles.

For Pearcedale, Luke Dalmau booted four goals and Mitch Smith was terrific.

Rangy forward Beau Cosson fired off seven goals as Dromana opened its winning account, crushing Tyabb 22.19 (151) to 6.3 (39). Terry Wheeler, Shaun Clarke and Rory Gregg also ran hot for the Tigers.

Former St Kilda livewire Allan Murray slotted four goals to help Devon Meadows dispatch Crib Point 13.22 (100) to 10.8 (68). Jesse Dehey, Stef Baumgartner and Barry Parsons also impressed.

On Sunday, a best-on-ground performance by Alex Harnett helped the Frankston Bombers defeat Hastings 19.15 (129) to 8.18 (66) in a grand final rematch.
