Former AFL player Aaron Edwards could be about to pull on the boots — in Sydney.
After suburban footy in Melbourne was cancelled, he headed north to be with his partner, taking his footy boots with him.
Edwards’ former North Melbourne teammate Ed Lower wants him to play with him at UTS Australian Football Club, also known as “The Bats”.
They play their home games at Paddington and also at Bondi.
“I’d love to have a run around only because we didn’t have the option in Victoria,’’ Edwards said.
“I might...but it all depends on if I can fit it in with spending time with my partner, really.’’
Edwards said he’s feeling fit after a strong pre-season with Pines in the Morningon Peninsula Nepean Football League before the 2020 season was canned because of coronavirus.
He even did a beep test on Monday.
“Fitness wise I’m probably back to the weight I finished AFL at,’’ he said.
“I’ve been training a fair bit. I thought the (MPNFL) season was going to start so I was training flat out to try and be ready.
“I did a beep test yesterday actually, that’s where I’m at. I’m a bit bored up here.’’
Edwards, 36, played for the West Coast Eagles, North Melbourne and Richmond.
And if he wants a challenge, he’s got it. The Bats are on the bottom of the ladder, 0-4.
Meanwhile, former Mt Eliza forward Jordan Moncrieff slotted 6.3 for Broadbeach in the Queensland league on Saturday. The son of Hawthorn premiership star Michael Moncrieff heads the goalkicking tally with 23 from four appearances.
Further north, Crib Point players have made a good impact with the Port Douglas Crocs in the AFL Cairns league, with Harry Dekleuver, Jarrod Fisk, Nick Rutherford and Ethan Smith enjoying the sunshine.
Bonbeach youngster Tyson Milne, son of ex-Saint Stephen Milne, is also playing with the Crocs, as is Jai Florent, the younger brother of Sydney Swan Oliver Florent.
