Laurimar and spearhead Jacson Cecil etched themselves into the Northern Football League record books on Saturday.

The Power put Division 3 struggler Reservoir to the sword at Crispe Park n a record-breaking display.

The 45.22 (292) to 0.2 (2) win is the highest score and biggest winning margin in the NFL era, which dates back to 2007.

According to website Local Footy Stats, which has Diamond Valley league records dating back to 1992, it is the fourth highest score and fourth biggest margin.

Lalor, which now sits on the bottom of the NFL tree, holds the recorded record with a 53.32 (350) to 0.0 (0) win over Watsonia in 2004.

The previous highest score in the Northern league era was Macleod’s 43.29 (287) to 6.4 (40) win over Wallan in 2007 and biggest winning margin was South Morang’s 263-point belting of Lalor earlier this season.

Laurimar coach Jimmy Atkins felt sorry for Reservoir but was happy with his team’s focus.

“It’s hard to watch for them, I played against Reservoir when they were a powerhouse – and same with Lalor – so it’s hard to watch,” he said.

“The conditions suited us perfectly, it was a beautiful day for footy.

“We kicked straight and won a lot of the footy so were able to get a big score on the board.

“We just had to get the job done because a couple of our competitors around us get to play them an extra time so we knew we had to get a good percentage boost.”

Atkins revealed his defenders had a pact to keep the Mustangs goalless.

“To be honest, they had a goal heading into half-time that we weren’t going to let them kick a goal,” he said.

“They were pretty keen to stick fat as a back six and if you watch the footage, Jake Richards does a massive rundown tackle and Ethan Bateman pushes back to take a mark in the goalsquare.

“I was really proud of their effort, it’s not all about kicking goals, and the backline kicked a little goal of their own.”

An amazing 15 Laurimar players kicked a goal in the rout but Jacson Cecil stole the show.

The Power spearhead booted 16 goals to smash the Division 3 goalkicking record and club record.

The bag was also the most in a single game since Shane Harvey’s 17 against Watsonia in 2017.

Cecil’s bullseye straight 16.6 broke his own division and club record of 14 goals – kicked against Lalor in Round 7 this season.

It earnt him the maximum 10 votes in the Coaches’ MVP and takes him to the top of the leadership, leap-frogging teammate Nathan Andrews and Kilmore’s Chris Ryall.

Atkins said it was no surprise Cecil had stood up following the departure of Josh Williamson.

“We all knew that was going to happen, a lot of the talk when Josh left was we might struggle, but we all knew Jacson was going to thrive,” Atkins said.

“He had a day out and we were looking to get the ball in his hands as much as we could and that’s twice we’ve been able to get him off the leash now.

“He puts in every week, even when he’s not kicking goals, he’s doing the right things for us.

“He’s had games where he’s kicked one or two but been in our top players just through his effort, he’s always looking to bring his teammates into play.”

Laurimar faces a danger game against an in-form Heidelberg West on Saturday.

“I really rate Heidelberg West, they’re a good side and very well coached,” Atkins said.

“The got us last time at their ground so we’re looking for redemption there, it’s definitely a danger game.”
