Two people were arrested after a brawl involving players and parents forced a suburban junior football match to be called off on Sunday.
The Northern Football League Under-16 Grading match between Epping and Yarrambat at Epping Recreation Reserve descended into chaos when the fight broke out just before half-time.
Police were called and a 21-year-old Kealba man and 21-year-old Epping man were arrested and interviewed but released pending further investigation.
The NFNL is also investigating the incident.
Yarrambat was leading the match 39 to 27 when the umpires ended it.
A police spokesman confirmed multiple units had attended Epping Recreation Reserve on April 10 following reports of a large brawl.
Initial reports suggested an on-field fight between Epping and Yarrambat players escalated after a coach and boundary umpire attempted to intervene.
It is alleged parents and other spectators then joined the fray, with police called to brawl between 40 people at about 4pm.
Yarrambat Football Club president Warren Casey said the club could not comment on a matter that was under league investigation, while Epping is yet to reply.
The NFNL declined to comment on the matter.
It is understood the league has been talking to both clubs since the incident but is yet to hand down any findings.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or with information or footage is urged to contact Epping Police Station on (03) 9409 8100, quoting incident number 220117734.
