Best afield Catherine O’Bryan put West Preston back in front eight minutes into the term and the result was sealed when Klarindah Hudson stretched the margin to 10 points.
“We stood on the ground in a circle and just remembered what it felt like last year to lose,” coach Brett Pollard said.
“We just didn’t want to do that again this year. Big relief for the girls and I am super proud of them. They were awesome.”
Sarina Galati, Teresa Cassar and Jessica Bamblett were instrumental for the premiers in their 6.2 (38) to 4.5 (29) triumph.
West Preston-Lakeside has been one of the success stories of the fledgling NFLW competition.
The Roosters’ under-16 girls side also tasted glory in their grand final last weekend and the club has been at the forefront of the explosion of women’s football.
“The girls have led the way, so hopefully the boys can get one or two more,” Pollard said.
Pollard said he hoped the premiership would assist with bringing more women to the club as it plans for its Division 1 debut in 2019.
“Hopefully this brings more girls to the club after a premiership,” he said.
“We’ll be on the hunt for some more girls and hopefully we can stand up in Division 1.”
Bundoora took out the Division 3 premiership with a 33-point victory over Eltham, while Bendigo claimed a 39-point win against Keilor in the Division 1 decider.
