The Roosters booked their spot in the NFLW Division 2 grand final with a four-point semi-final win over VU Western Spurs and will face Montmorency on Sunday at Preston City Oval.
West Preston-Lakeside has been the division’s dominant team throughout 2018, finishing with an 11-1 record as it looks to atone for its grand final loss to VU Western Spurs last year.
“To be a start up women’s club and two years in we are back to back grand finalists, it is a pretty amazing job by the girls,” West Preston coach Brett Pollard said.
“Most of them are second-year footballers.”
Making their achievement even more meritorious, the Roosters have battled for numbers and often played without a bench.
“We have been struggling all year with the numbers, but you couldn’t tell,” Pollard said. “We’re lucky to have a bench most weeks. To be where we are is really good.”
Catherine O’Bryan, Teresa Cassar, Qwai Sibbald and Chloe Kalanj have been key figures for West Preston this year.
“The girls love it and we are really starting to become one big club now,” Pollard said.
“We will have a big support there on Sunday and hopefully the girls will do them proud.”
Montmorency defeated VU Western Spurs 3.6 (24) to 2.3 (15) in Sunday’s preliminary final.
Nicole Blythe was the Magpies’ multiple goalkicker and Molly Reinke continued her red-hot form by being named best afield.
