NFL 2018: Bundoora completes perfect season with women’s grand final win over Eltham

A MOORCROFT and a Dyson experiencing premiership success for Bundoora is nothing new. But on Sunday, it was Chloe and Candice, rather than Gary and Ricky, enjoying the spoils.

A MOORCROFT and a Dyson experiencing premiership success for Bundoora is nothing new.

But on Sunday, it was Chloe Moorcroft, the daughter of ex-Bomber and Demon Gary, and Candice Dyson, the sister of Bulls coach Ricky, enjoying the spoils of grand final glory.

Moorcroft and Dyson were members of the inaugural Bundoora team which completed a perfect Northern Football League women’s campaign with a 6.8 (44) to 2.0 (12) victory over Eltham in the Division 3 decider.

Gary Moorcroft, the Bulls’ coach, said he was proud of the way his team dealt with the pressure premiership favouritism after a 12-0 home-and-away season.

“You have that mentality over your head and expectation,” Moorcroft said.

“But the girls held their head pretty well and pulled through in the end.”

Dyson was one of Bundoora’s best players in its 32-point victory at Preston City Oval, while Moorcroft lauded the impact of half-forward Jemma Cremore.

Moorcroft’s daughter, who took up football two years ago, only played about five minutes of the grand final after being diagnosed with glandular fever days before the game.

But Gary said the illness did not detract from the “real buzz” he felt to coach his daughter in a premiership team.

“She was a gymnast, gave that away and started playing footy,” he said.

“She’s come on in leaps and bounds. Coaching my daughter in a premiership was a big buzz.”

The Bulls seized control of the decider in the second half, turning a 10-point lead at the main break into a 25-point buffer at three-quarter-time thanks to goals from Brieanna Musgrave and Rebekah Blennerhassett.

Best afield Krystal Cullinan kicked the opening major of the last term for Eltham, but Brittany Del Romano put the result beyond doubt when she replied for Bundoora.

The Bulls are destined for NFLW Division 2 after their dominant campaign and Moorcroft is confident his team will be ready for the jump in class.

“We have watched a couple of games that were played after us,” he said.

“The skill level goes up dramatically. (But) I reckon we will be really competitive in that division.”
