Mt Eliza was on from the start on Saturday.

Lachlan Williams scored with a spectacular flying volley to give the Redlegs the opening goal of the game against Frankston Bombers, triggering a goal frenzy.

Mt Eliza piled on 8.6 to the Bombers 4.2 in a high-standard first quarter, delighting the big home crowd at Madsen Reserve.

It put Mt Eliza on the path to a resounding 55-point victory, 19.18 (132) to 12.5 (77).

Williams finished with 6.4 in a swan song of sorts; he’s heading off overseas and won’t be back until the end of the season.

Pint sized Will Lambert, in his first season of senior football, capped a great game with five goals.

The 19-year-old is from Mt Eliza footy royalty; his grandfather Greg coached the Redlegs’ 1983 premiership.

Will’s emergence this season has brought the Lamberts together.

“His grandfather is there all the time now, so it’s brought three generations back to local footy,” Mt Eliza coach Stephen Brattle said.

“They’re all there watching him.”

Brattle said Lambert, who is on the train-on list at Port Melbourne, gave the Redlegs a spark on Saturday.

“He just turned up front and centre all the time, and took his chances,” he said.

Finlay Bayne slotted a left-foot goal in the opening onslaught and went on to be one of Mt Eliza’s best players on the day.

Lochie Fewster impressed in the ruck up against Bombers stars Harry Prior and Khan Haretuku.

Sam Gill and Braden Nelmes were also named in the Redlegs’ best.

Former Melbourne captain Nathan Jones made his second appearance for Mt Eliza and was prominent, looking every bit as fit as he did when he played in the AFL.

Mt Eliza fans will see Jones a lot more this season, with Brattle revealing Jones would be part of Mt Eliza’s premiership push.

“He’s looking to play the home games at least,” Brattle said.

“He’s loved it that much.

“His influence has been great…he sets up the play. He’s pretty fit.

“He won’t play next home game…but in the back end…he’ll get five I reckon.

“He’s definitely good for the gate.

“His instruction and communication stuff is excellent.”

Brattle said Mt Eliza signed Frankston VFL forward Justin Davies last week. He could be a timely boost, with Williams heading overseas.

Mt Eliza is in third spot at the halfway mark of the MPFNL Division 1 season, with six wins and a draw.

Brattle marked his side “nearly eight out of 10” at this stage.

“Internally we think we’re going okay,” he said.

“Other people on the outside probably thought we weren’t going to be as good but I’d give us at least seven, nearly eight out of 10.

“We expected to be in the five and we’re pretty much in there.”

Brattle has instructed his players to freshen up over the King’s Birthday weekend.

“Don’t touch the footy, have a week off,” he said.
