With a splash of star power, Mornington Peninsula league’s Division 2 will be a “must watch” competition in 2023.

The arrival of ex-AFL players Paddy Ryder (Devon Meadows), Dayne Beams (Pearcedale), Dean Kent (Devon Meadows), Jack Lonie (Seaford) and Billy Hartung (Rye) will ensure the spotlight is firmly focused.

There’s been vigorous player movement at the 12 clubs, with 100 names in the “ins” and “outs” transfers.

Stars have arrived, others departed.

Hastings has secured one-time draft prospect Clayton Gay from West Adelaide in the SANFL, as well as Frankston YCW reserves premiership players Josh Berenger and Tom Baker.

Karingal, after playing off in last season’s grand final, has picked up quality Bunyip ruckman Agape Patolo and Rye best and fairest midfielder Matt Hill.

Somerville has picked up Kilcunda Bass agile ruck-forward 199cm Ethan Watts, but the Eagles have lost “The G Man”, Ryan Gillis, to Cora Lynn.

Rye has lost club captain Tyrren Head to East Brighton, but added former AFL-Hawk and Kangaroo Hartung.

Chelsea has recruited well, including Myrtleford champion Matthew Dussin, who has been the Saints’ go-to man when in trouble for a decade; ruck, onball, forward or back, he has played them all.

Seaford best and fairest winner Joel Filippone has put in a clearance to Broadbeach in the QAFL. But the Tigers have gained quality, including ex-AFL Saint Jack Lonie and Queenslander Reed Maskell-Dobbyn.

It must be noted that most transfer requests, at this stage, are either “pending” or “awaiting participant registration”.
