Tim Broomhead joins MPNFL club Seaford

Former Collingwood player Tim Broomhead has settled in well at Seaford as the influx of AFL players into the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League grows.

Tim Broomhead played 37 games for Collingwood between 2013-20.

Now he’s a Tiger, having signed with MPNFL Division 2 club Seaford.

At just 26, Broomhead has much to offer and his arrival at Seaford has been well received by the club’s young playing group.

“He’s fitted in well at Seaford and is much loved by the boys,” Seaford football manager Paul Kennedy said.

“He looks really happy at training, that’s what I’ve noticed.”

The MPNFL will feature a string of former AFL players in 2021.

Last Friday, Bonbeach signed ex-St Kilda star Sam Gilbert, who joins his former Saints teammate David Armitage at the Sharks.

Adelaide Crows forward Myles Poholke will line-up with his junior club Sorrento and former Richmond and GWS star Brett Deledio will play two games with Devon Meadows.

Former Saint and Kangaroo Nick Dal Santo trained with Tyabb earlier this month.

Broomhead found his way to Seaford through new Tigers high performance manager Jamie Cassidy-McNamara, who was Collingwood’s skill acquisition coordinator for the past five years.

Also, Seaford captain Rourke Fischer formed a friendship with Broomhead during a stint with Collingwood VFL.

Broomhead played in the midfield in the AFL and was also a noted goal kicker.

Kennedy said he would have a similar role at Seaford.

“I suspect he will play midfield but he’s a goal kicker,” Kennedy said.

“We’ve got some midfield depth now, so it won’t be that he will have to spend all his time getting the ball out of the middle. Hopefully he will be damaging down in the forward line for us.

“We’ve got some youngsters like (Ishak) Bashir and (Joel) Filippone who are about to come into their own as midfielders.”

Kennedy said Seaford was bursting with promising youngsters.

“We’ve got probably the best under 19s group that I’ve seen in maybe 20 years and they will get a lot of opportunities to play senior footy,’’ he said.

“So the youngsters will come in and see someone like Broomhead and learn pretty quickly from him.”
