They’re hailing it one of the biggest signings in their history.
Noosa Tigers are absolutely pumped to secure Sorrento’s Myles Poholke for the 2022 season.
The 23-year-old former Adelaide Crow is looking forward to sampling the sun and surf after a frustrating year of lockdown in Victoria.
“I was chasing a change of scenery and what better place in the country than Noosa,” Poholke told noosaafc@bigpond.com.
“I’m looking forward to meeting some new people and hearing that we have a young group suits me.”
Noosa, which finished on the bottom of the QAFL ladder this year, said Poholke was “someone that we can build around for the future”.
Poholke leaves Sorrento after one season back at his home club after being delisted by the Adelaide Crows in 2020.
There’s specuation Rosebud young gun Keegan Downie could be accompanying Poholke to Noosa.
Rosebud coach Nick Jewell, though, would not confirm Downie’s departure.
Poholke was drafted by Adelaide with their second selection and 44th overall in the 2016 national draft.
He made his debut in a 10-point victory over Sydney at the SCG in 2018 and went on to play 16 AFL games.
Poholke played 11 games for Sorrento this year, kicking 16 goals.
Sorrento coach Leigh Poholke, Myles’ older brother, said he would leave a void in the Sharks’ midfield, although the signing of St Kevin’s Old Boys dual premiership captain Nick Wood would help cover his loss.
“It wasn’t a surprise,’’ Leigh said of Myles’ departure.
“We knew it was coming. That’s why we targeted Nick (Wood) to fill the void that Myles will leave.
“He’s young, he wants to travel, wants to go overseas and he’s earnt the right to do so.
“You can’t get overseas at the moment so Noosa is probably the next best stop I would imagine.
“One of our ex-premiership players Ryan Jefferies, he’s a recruitment manager up there (at Noosa).
“There’s a long history between Sorrento and Noosa. We get players from there…and we try and send our players to Noosa.’’
In the past fortnight, Sorrento has signed Seaford captain Rourke Fischer, Chelsea sharpshooter Curtis Bywater and Wood and regained three-time premiership player Jon Croad, back from Queensland.
