Mornington coach Simon Goosey gave his side a rocket at halftime, annoyed it had “allowed“ Crib Point to kick the first three goals of the second quarter.

His words had a strong effect.

The Bulldogs came out snarling in the third quarter and booted seven goals.

They fired off another seven in the last term.

By the end of the game the scoreboard showed a resounding victory for Mornington: 24.14 (158) to 9.10 (64).

Goosey was a much happier coach after the game, pleased with most parts of the game.

He was especially impressed with new signing Perry Lewis-Smith, the former Pines premiership star and VFL midfielder.

The 22-year-old linked with the Bulldogs during the week after returning from Aspley in Queensland.

“He was fantastic, he played in the midfield and kicked two,” Goosey said of Lewis-Smith.

“He’s a really good midfielder. He probably would spread harder than anyone in the competition.”

Mornington focal point Jackson Calder slotted 11 goals to boost his season tally to 42 from eight games.

Having recovered from a calf injury that has hampered him in the early part of the season, Calder was able to use his running power and get up the ground more.

“He came back (from Darwin) a little bit sore and he’s been hurting in the calf a little bit,” Goosey said.

“We’ve beeen managing him. It was the first week he was able to do a fair bit on the track. He should get better and better every week.

“He’s been kicking points because with the injury it’s been hurting when he kicks. He’s over that now and a bit freer.”

Mornington had multiple avenues to goal, with Matt North kicking three goals, and Lewis-Smith, Bryce Dinger and Adrian Speedy two apiece.

Jake Smart, Josh Brown, Ryan Falvo and Will Goosey also scored goals.

Goosey and the Bulldogs might have a selection dilemma this week, with Corey Ash, Nath Heath and Kalen Bird available to return to the side.

Mornington is in third spot with a 6-2 record. It faces undefeated Langwarrin next.

Seaford dispatched Karingal by 42 points to make it four wins on the spin.

Joel Filippone, Brodie Scully (three goals) and Andrew Teakel (two) were outstanding for the 6-2 Tigers.

It was the Jack Francis show at Bunguyan Reserve, the Chelsea star firing off nine goals, including five in the last quarter, as the Seagulls trounced Tyabb 25.12 (162) to 5.13 (43).

If it wasn’t Francis running hot near goals it was Curtis Bywater, who kicked seven goals.

A best-on-ground display by Lachie Williams helped Somerville pull away from Devon Meadows to record a 55-point win, 18.13 (121) to 10.6 (66).

Tom Roberts was also a key figure in the victory for the Eagles, along with Andrew Fergusson and Lachlan Haskett.

AFL draft prospect Nathan Gray gave a dominating display as Hastings beat Pearcedale by 33 points to square its season at 4-4. Aaron Vinson and Matt Foy also impressed, while Luke Clark and Taylor Stratton booted three goals apiece for the Blues.

Former Essendon star Mark Baguley kicked three goals from the middle to help Langwarrin pull away from Rye after halftime to win 14.15 (99) to 6.5 (41) in a twilight game under lights at Lloyd Park.

Jaiden Jakubenko, Ryan Smyth and Sean Herdman (two goals) also did well for Langy.
