Frankston YCW continues to win games, and unveil exciting young talent.

The latest new kid on the block is Christian Tsiampas, who kicked four goals on debut in the Stonecats’ 69-point win over Rosebud on Saturday, 16.15 (111) to 6.6 (42).

The small forward, promoted from the under 19s, gave YC a volt of electricity at John Coburn Oval.

“He was just dynamite, electric, just super clean, super quick, a really great start to his senior career,” Frankston YCW coach Paul Goonan said, adding with a chuckle, “so, he might hold his spot”.

The Stonecats are undefeated and sit a game clear on top of the ladder after seven rounds.

They held Rosebud to one goal in the first half in perfect conditions, while kicking 9.10 themselves.

“It was a really good half of footy,” Goonan said.

“We fell asleep in the third quarter for a bit.

“We expected them (Rosebud) to come back and do a bit but, yeah, we were disappointed in the third quarter. But the last quarter was really good, we got back to what we did well in the first half.”

Casey Demons VFL midfielder Luca Goonan returned to the YCW side and went head-to-head with Rosebud’s Collingwood VFL star Campbell Hustwaite.

It was a good battle between the young guns, who were Stingrays teammates and remain good friends.

Bailey Angwin was named Frankston YCW’s best player.

“He took a massive step up this week for us,” Goonan said of Angwin.

“He is probably realising now that he fits in at that level, he’s getting more confidence to play at that level and have a big impact.’’

Luke Paynter, Jack Greenwood, Roan Steele (three goals) and Byron Barry were also in fine form for Frankston YCW.

In somewhat of a warning to rival sides, Goonan said this new crop of Stonecats is only getting better.

“The midfield is a pretty new group, (Brenton) Lambert, (Blake) Mullane, Luca (Goonan) and (Bailey) Schmidt, the ruckman,” he said.

“Even though we’ve had two pre seasons and they’re starting to click, yesterday was probably the first time we walked away and said, ‘yeah, they were really good’.

“They’re linking...starting to trust each other, they know each other’s games more, that chemistry stuff, understanding each other’s patterns.

“I think they’re on the right path now.”

Goonan also praised Caleb Douglas, who came up from the reserves and slotted into the YCW defence seamlessly.

“Caleb, he’s still a young guy getting better and better, he came in and was just seamless, filled a role and did it really well,” he said.

YCW’s dual forward threats of Matt Troutbeck and Josh Butland kicked four and two goals respectively and continue to develop as a combination.

“It’s taken us four or five weeks to work out how to get the best out of Matty Troutbeck,” Goonan said.

“He and Butland are both dynamic kicks as well.”

Rosebud regained Sean Downie from a hamstring injury and he kicked a goal in the third quarter as the Buds rallied.

Tom Stoffels also impressed for the Buds, kicking two goals. He was among Rosebud’s best, along with Blake Kuipers, Matt Baker and Mitch Dempster.

Frankston Bombers continued their hot form with a rousing 30-point over Sorrento at McFarlane Reserve.

The Bombers led by a goal at three quarter time but stormed clear with seven goals in the last term to Sorrento’s three.

Bombers coach Beau Muston returned for his first game in five weeks and slotted three goals in the 17.12 (114) to 12.12 (84) victory.

Former VFL stars Alex Harnett and Khan Haretuku kicked four goals apiece in the win, Frankston’s fourth on the spin.

Ryan Marks-Logan, Sam Drake, Sam Fox and Jason Kingsbury were also instrumental in the win.

For Sorrento, Luke Brigden, Nick Marston and Daniel Grant were best.

Mt Eliza consolidated second spot with a hard-fought 16-point win over Dromana, 7.13 (55) to 5.9 (39) at Madsen Reserve.
