Tyabb’s young captain was dubbed a “miracle man’’ after inspiring his side to a memorable come-from-behind win in MPNFL Division 2.

Tyabb climbed off the bottom of the ladder after powering home to beat Crib Point by 12 points, 9.11 (65) to 6.17 (53), on Saturday.

The Yabbies looked up against it when they trailed Cribby by 13 points at the last change at Bunguyan Reserve.

But with coach Anthony Agius urging his young side to seize the moment, Tyabb found another gear to outscore the visitors 4.2 to 0.1 in a thrilling final term.

“These are the moments you can reflect on in time as far as coming from behind and winning,’’ Agius told his men.

“It was exciting, actually.’’

Agius poured praise on young Yabbies captain Will Hose, who was at the heart of the last quarter surge.

“Will Hose, our captain, he’s a miracle man really,’’ Agius said.

“He was sick yesterday so we had to try and protect him somewhat.

“In the last quarter we put him in the ruck and away he went. He was the leader of the pack and the boys followed him.’’

As drizzle fell, Tyabb young gun Jon Watson kicked an early goal to cut Crib Point’s lead to six points.

Hose put his body on the line to earn a free kick that led to teammate Darcy Sawyer popping through another goal to level scores.

Tyabb had the momentum, and then the lead, when defender Corey Buchan went forward, clunked a mark and slotted a massive goal.

Moments later, Hose won the tap out and Yabbies forward Brock Regan kicked his second of the afternoon to give the Yabbies a match-winning lead.

It was a Tyabb past players day and the atmosphere in the rooms after the win was electric.

“It’s just great for the club,’’ Agius said.

“Hopefully those past players will start coming down a bit more. We’re showing some good signs.

“It was another exciting day. It’s just all part of the journey.’’

Tyabb midfielder Matt McLennan was named the Yabbies best player after a wholehearted four-quarter display.

Buchan, Hose, Chris Harris, Tom Maine and Sawyer also played starring roles.

It was Tyabb’s second win this season — both have been against Crib Point — and there’s little doubt Agius has improved the Yabbies.

Tyabb faces Devon Meadows, Mornington and Langwarrin in the remaining three games.

“For me, that’s the perfect fixture because we’re going to really know where we are at by the time we play Langwarrin,’’ Agius said.

“We’ll walk away and know exactly how far away we are from the best.’’

Crib Point was chasing its second successive win but ran out of gas.

“We were really good for a long time,’’ Crib Point coach Andrew Gilmour said.

“In the third quarter we probably wasted opportunities, we kicked 2.7 or something.

“I think if we’d have kicked 4.5 we would have broken the back but they just had a bit of a sniff in the last quarter and kicked a couple. And with that momentum shift, we couldn’t score…they just made the most of their opportunities and we squandered a few.’’

Kevin Van Den Berghe, Cooper Wisken, Matty Bennetts and Warwick Miller (two goals) were among Crib Point’s best players.
