Crib Point coach Andrew Gilmour said he had full confidence in Jett Bauer as the young midfielder lined up for a kick after the siren to give the Magpies their first win of the season on Saturday.

“Yeah, with him, definitely,’’ Gilmour said.

The pressure was immense but Bauer was cool and calm as he slotted the goal with his trusty left boot to secure a two-point win over Pearcedale, 10.5 (65) to 9.9 (63), and spark wild scenes at Crib Point.

Dozens of Cribby fans streamed on to the field to celebrate what had been a terrific day — all three Crib Point footy sides had victories.

Gilmour said Bauer was both elated and relieved after the game.

“I said to him, ‘have you ever done that before, mate?’’’ Gilmour said.

“And he said, ‘no, and I never want to do that again either’.’’

The lead chopped and changed all game before Crib Point, after trailing by eight points at the last break, kicked four goals to two in the final term.

The dramatic win coincided with a Crib Point past players day and they all piled into the rooms to see the young Magpies sing the song for the first time since July last year.

“The energy in the room was enormous,’’ Gilmour said.

“There were some tears from supporters, from players, from parents. It was pretty good.

“I think that was the best bit. There were so many people there at the end, it made their day. Really special.’’

The win was also Gilmour’s first as a senior coach.

And it was the first time Crib Point had beaten a top-five side since 2014.

Gilmour said his young side deserved some success after several near misses.

“I guess the season was running out of potential wins and we definitely didn’t want to go winless because they’ve been so close so many times,’’ he said.

“We’ve had so many two goal to four goal losses…so it proved to themselves a fair bit about their ability to win.

“It’s huge just for their belief.

“Straight away we said we’re hunting two in a row. We play Tyabb next week.’’

Crib Point’s tall defender Jarrod Fisk was brilliant in the victory, dominating across half back.

“He would have had 10 intercept marks, he was just incredible,’’ Gilmour said.

“That’s the best game he’s played for the club.’’

The Magpies’ young midfield guns Cooper Wisken and Bauer were also outstanding.

“They’ve been the biggest improvers at the club,’’ Gilmour said.

“They’re really putting up good numbers regularly.’’

Mornington recruit Warwick Miller kicked three goals, took some great marks and presented well all day up forward. In the rooms afterwards he would have been excused for not knowing the words of the song.

Youngster Lee Sheehan on a wing also impressed, while Archie and Miles Shepherd were influential, dominating in the air. Archie kicked a couple of goals.

“They were both good, they’re just so good in the air,’’ Gilmour said of the Shepherds.

“They make up ground and make a contest when the ball is not right and when you kick it to their advantage they’re just so good with their hands.’’

For Pearcedale, it was a stinging loss...its second after-the-siren defeat in a month. The Dales slip to sixth spot.
