Disappointed to miss out on the Bonbeach coaching job, Ricky Ferraro says he will “let the dust settle” before deciding on his next move.

The 30-year-old applied to be a playing-coach at Bonbeach, where he’d previously played in 2012-14, after resigning as senior coach of Hastings in July.

Bonbeach appointed Sandringham VFL coach Adrian Connolly last Thursday.

“I had two Zoom meetings with them which was good but then I fell short unfortunately,” Ferraro said.

“They wanted to stick to the same process they’ve had the last few years because they think they’re pretty close to success and they think that bringing in a player-coach would probably change the dynamics.”

Ferraro was naturally disappointed to be overlooked, believing “it might have been a good time to change” for Bonbeach.

“And with the relationships I have with the group and the club, and what I believe I could have brought to the club — that little bit of an edge that they haven’t had in the last four or five years — I thought it would have been a good fit for myself and the club as well,” he said.

Ferraro said would like to coach again but was prepared to join a club as a player-only next season.

“I’m still not sure,’’ he said.

“I’m back to where I was six or seven weeks ago, potentially I’ll probably just go back as a player somewhere.

“I’ve only had the weekend for the dust to settle. I’ll start having a bit more of a think about it.”

Ferraro said going through the interview process for the Bonbeach job stoked a fire within.

“When you put a lot of work in to getting the Bonbeach job, I definitely had the fire to go again,’’ he said.

“Let’s just see what the next couple of weeks has ahead for me.’’

Ferraro said he would consider returning to play with Hepburn in the Central Highlands league where he played in 2015-16, but was also open to offers to play closer to home.

A leading MPNFL coach said on Monday he would be phoning Ferraro.
