Bonbeach interviewed four candidates for its vacant coaching position over the past fortnight.
On Friday morning, it announced that Adrian Connolly had the job.
Connolly, 50, was appointed Sandringham senior coach in July before the season was wiped out because of the coronavirus crisis.
Now he finds his way to the MPNFL.
He’s had 15 years in various coaching roles, including four years as an assistant coach at Sandringham and two at the Frankston Dolphins (under Patrick Hill in 2015-16).
Connolly also coached Ormond and Old Mazenod in the VAFA.
Connolly, who is a teacher and Director of Sport at Mazenod College, lives locally in Edithvale and says he has watched Bonbeach play a number of games over the past three years.
“The list is developing with a good balance of youth, maturity and experience,’’ he said.
“I also have a football connection with nine players on the list through my VFL coaching so I feel I have a good start.
“I’m impressed with the inclusive Bonbeach culture and commitment to the local community, which I believe is important to achieving success.”
Bonbeach president Paul Smith was thrilled with the appointment and predicted that Connolly’s experience would be a great benefit to the emerging young talent on the Sharks’ list.
“Adrian is a great get for us and his work ethic and experience will raise the professionalism of our club to even greater heights,’’ he said.
“We believe Adrian is the perfect person to continue the development of our emerging young talent and take our club to the top next year.”
Mitch Gent and Trent Dennis-Lane will fill the senior assistant coach roles in 2021, while Connolly will also be supported by Brett Dunne (development coach) and former St Kilda star Justin Peckett (Under 19s coach).
