Former Essendon utility Mark Baguley says he’s “rapt to be back home” after signing with Langwarrin.
Baguley played in Langy’s 2005 senior premiership as an 18-year-old — he has a premiership tattoo on his ankle — and he still has friends playing there.
He announced his retirement from AFL ranks in August and was keen to keep playing at suburban level.
And after offers from a raft of local clubs, including Mornington and Langwarrin, he chose his home club, where friends Andrew Withers, Shane Tanirau, Shane Paterson and Gerard Brown still play.
“When I got drafted I always said I wanted to come back and play for Langy so I’ve got the opportunity now and I’m excited,” Baguley told GameFace.
Baguley said he was looking forward to playing his role and helping Langwarrin push for a premiership next season.
“I’m hoping to play up in the forward line (and) a bit in the midfield,” he said.
“I’ll just bring my competitive spirit to the team, be a good teammate and just play my role.”
Langwarrin co-coach Blake McCormack said all at the club were thrilled to have “Baggers’’ on board.
“I sort of knew a couple of weeks ago,” McCormack told GameFace.
“He flicked me a text and said, ‘there’s no place I’d rather be than play with my mates and come home’.
“He’s a quality person and we couldn’t be happier.”
