Red Hill will embark on a gruelling month of practice matches and match simulation against four powerhouse clubs, as it strives to be match-hardened for its step up to Division 1 of the MPNFL in 2020.
The Hillmen, who won last year’s Division 2 flag, will take part in match simulation with VFL club Sandringham before facing Noble Park, Narre Warren and Vermont in practice games in March.
Two of the clubs, Narre Warren and Vermont, won premierships last season.
Red Hill coach Jamie Mollo said the rigorous lead in to the season was by design.
“We know it’s going to be tough (in MPNFL Division 1),” he said.
“Every week will be a challenge. I guess that’s why I’ve set up our practice games as I have — to make sure every praccy is a real tough one.
“It will just set us up going into round one against Dromana.”
Mollo said the Hillmen would also train alongside Noble Park, coached by former Bonbeach mentor Steve Hughes, during the pre-season.
Red Hill has further strengthened its list, with Edi-Asp running defender Liam Harris joining the Hillmen — “he will complement our list” — while Mollo said another three recruits were on the radar.
“We’ve got three in the pipeline,” he said.
“They’ll add to the list we’ve already got.
“We’re not looking for a lot, only two or three. We reckon our list bats pretty deep.”
One of the possible newcomers is from within the MPNFL and two others are from other leagues.

“They’ll give the boys a bit more support,’’ Mollo said of the potential signings.
“They will definitely add pace and definitely experience. Bigger bodies, a bit of experience and with that added pace as well.”
