Devon Meadows coach Neil Craig has played down the loss of forward Michael Theodoridis to Drouin, preferring to focus on the club’s added depth and talented acquisitions.
Theodoridis booted 34 goals in 15 games for the Panthers last season and was a fan favourite, but has returned to his previous club.
His departure leaves a void in the forward line.
Craig said Devon Meadows had recruited well, headed by the arrival of Frankston Bombers teammates Nathan Phillips and Jacob Cudmore.
“They bring a lot of experience to us,” Craig said.
“Those boys are really good culturally. That’s a bonus to start off with.
“As far as building depth we’ve probably got another 15 or 16 depth players that we didn’t have last year which is going to make a huge difference.”
Jordan Smale and Will Mace, both ex-Mt Eliza players who had a season with Keysborough, have also joined Devon Meadows.
Brayden McNab, a strongly built 22-year-old from Coldstream, and Bayswater player Justin Rowe are other possible newcomers.
“All of these guys just bring so much more depth which is what we didn’t have last year,’’ Craig said.
“We had some but we didn’t have anywhere near what you need to get through the rigors of a footy season.
“You need those 10-12 depth players just to get through the season, just to remain competitive.”
Devon Meadows won five games to finish in ninth spot in MPNFL Division 2 last season and Craig is hoping for a better run with injuries this year.
