Rosebud has continued to bolster its list as the 2023 season nears.
Having already signed Cranbourne premiership players Jake Carosella and Luca Bellinvia, the Buds have added St Kilda City bull Johlrhys Youse.
The teenager played alongside Dane Swan in Southern league Division 1 last season and is also a member of the AFL New Zealand side.
“He’s relatively new to the game and has a rugby background,” new Rosebud coach Danny Ades said.
“He’s strong through the footy. I think he’ll develop into a really good senior footballer.
“He played the last half of the season with St Kilda City, so he got to mix it with the likes of Swanny and Pottsy (Luke Potts), Madi Andrews and Jimmy Magner so he would have learnt a fair bit last year.”
Ades takes charge of Rosebud after coaching Dingley for the past three seasons.
He said the Buds were raring to go, keen and fit, after an excellent pre season.
“We’re tracking nicely, we had our pre season camp, the guys are fit,” Ades said.
“And they’ve been really receptive to the new game plan, they seem to be enjoying that.
“The plan for us this year is purely development and we’ll see how far that takes us.”
Rosebud has three players listed with VFL clubs — Blake Kuipers (Carlton),
Jake Carosella (Casey Demons) and Campbell Hustwaite (captain of Collingwood).
“How regularly we see them I’m not sure,” Ades said.
There was talk of Casey Demons skipper Mitch White making Rosebud his home club, but it didn’t eventuate.
“I’m hopeful this time next year he’ll be on our coaching staff helping me,’’ Ades said.
“That’s the plan.”
Rosebud’s main departures are captain Sean Downie (East Brighton) and best and fairest Liam McKenna (Sorrento).
Rosebud has two practice matches teed up: against South Belgrave at Rosebud on March 18 and against Chelsea Heights on March 25, again at home.
