JACK Higgins has been rewarded for his outstanding Under-18 National Championships by being named Vic Metro’s best and fairest player.
The Oakleigh Chargers’ forward/midfielder was prolific throughout the championships, averaging 30 disposals across his four games and kicking five goals to earn All Australian honours.
AFL recruiters have been tracking the progress of Higgins, 18, for a couple of years, with his performances throughout the national championships doing nothing to dull the interest.

Oakleigh Chargers talent manager Craig Notman said the East Malvern product set high expectations for his performances and had a “real willingness to compete”.
“The higher level of footy he goes I think he rises to that,” Notman said.
“He would have loved the challenge of coming up against the best players within the country at under-18 level, showing what he is capable of and really pushing his case for what should happen in November come draft time.”
Higgins has booted 20 goals from his 11 TAC Cup games this year, figuring in Oakleigh Chargers’ best players in five games.
“The attention and interest in Jack has been ongoing,” Notman said.
“Talking to recruiters they’ve all been very complimentary of the way Jack has gone about it and rated his efforts at the carnival extremely highly.”
