Another former AFL player is heading to VAFA powerhouse St Kevin’s.
The club that recruited former Blue and Roo Jarrad Waite for 2019 and Western Bulldogs premiership hero Tom Boyd for 2020 has landed former Collingwood wingman Adam Oxley.
The 28-year-old returned to his home state of Queensland to play with Redland this year but the NEAFL season never got off the ground.
He’s decided to come back to Melbourne.
The right-footer played 34 games, spread over six years, after Collingwood recruited him as a rookie and gave him an AFL debut in 2013.
He stayed with the Maggies as a VFL player after being delisted at the end of 2018.
Oxley’s arrival follows that of ex-Carlton midfielder Jaryd Cachia and takes to 10 the number of former AFL players on the books at St Kevin’s.
There’s Cachia, Boyd, Waite, ex-West Coast Eagles utility,VAFA champion Mitch Brown, former Demon James Strauss, ex-Carlton forward Patrick Kerr, former Tiger Matt Arnot, former Bomber Tom Jok, ex-Gold Coast Sun Tom Nicholls and Oxley.
Kerr has signed at VFL mainstay Port Melbourne and will play at St Kevin’s when he’s not in the VFL.
Like Boyd, big man Nicholls joined for the 2020 season that never was. Jok returned to the club after his stint at Essendon, where he played one AFL game.
Skob also has a string of players either attached to VFL clubs or have played in the VFL, including Billy Kanakis, Josh Wallis, promising ruckman Riley Bowman and highly regarded Zac Pretty.
Wallis, brother of Western Bulldogs forward Mitch, has left Footscray VFL and is back at St Kevin’s full-time.
Bowman played in the Dandenong Stingrays’ 2018 TAC Cup premiership and had a stint at Essendon VFL.
Meanwhile, in another significant recruit to local football, Port Melbourne co-captain Jordan Lisle has gone to Balwyn in the Eastern league.
