What a signing.
Collingwood premiership star and former Brisbane Lions captain Dayne Beams has signed with MPNFL Division 2 club Pearcedale.
He did so on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old, who played 177 AFL games, is said to be keen to play alongside his ex-Lions teammate Ryan Bastinac at the Dales.
Beams played in Collingwood’s 2010 premiership and went on to be one of the AFL’s elite midfielders, in 2012 earning All Australian honours and winning the Copeland Trophy.
Traded to Brisbane in 2014, he captained the Lions in 2017-18 before returning to Collingwood to finish his league career.
Pearcedale, young and talented, made a thrilling charge last season, scoring its first finals victory in a decade.
The Dales were driven by a bunch of close mates.
“Nothing really fazes them, it’s hard to explain,’’ Pearcedale coach Peter Bastinac said after the Dales beat Devon Meadows in the elimination final.
“They just go out and play. They’re not fussed, they’re not overawed by the occasion.”
