Scoresby will have a new coach in 2020 after Scott Goldsworthy decided to relinquish the reins.

Goldsworthy stepped down when the Magpies suggested they would advertise the position.

Scoresby president Dave Renkin said Goldsworthy wanted to spend more time with his family.

“We said to him we were going to advertise and Goldie is due to become a new dad,” Renkin said.

“He was a bit undecided on whether he was going to go on for next season. We had a bit of a chat about advertising, which he was comfortable with us doing.

“He’s decided he’s going to concentrate on fatherhood. He’ll be a first-time dad in a couple of weeks actually.

“That’s probably the main reason behind his decision.”

Goldsworthy took on the role midway through 2017.

He took the club to finals last year but the Magpies were relegated from EFL Division 2 this season after finishing with a 3-15 record.

Scoresby competed in top-flight grand finals in 2010 and 2011 but it will compete in the league’s fourth tier next season.

A number of retirements and departures saw the club slide down the ladder in 2019.

Renkin said Goldsworthy had promoted young talent into the senior ranks.

“He’s had to because we’ve had a number of injuries and retirements so he’s used a lot more of the players,” he said.

“Certainly the way he went about his business, his professionalism and how he prepared resonated with all the players.

“The vast majority of players had a great deal of respect for Goldie and the way he went about his coaching.

“His messages this year were pretty good from what I heard in what he had to deliver to the players.”

He said it was hoped Goldsworthy would remain at the club.

“He’s already played a couple of games of veterans football and we’re hopeful we’ll see him continue on at the club in some sort of capacity,” he said.

“Quite clearly now he is concentrating on becoming a new dad.”
