Former Gold Coast and Carlton tall Daniel Gorringe will have a new local football home in 2019 after being released from his contract at Park Orchards.

The Sharks will approve for the 26-game AFL player to join Wandin after six previous transfers were denied.

The most recent clearance was knocked back on February 23.

Park Orchards and Wandin had been in a tangle for Gorringe’s services for 2019 after the Bulldogs unveiled the 200cm forward as a recruit in November.

The two clubs have been in ongoing discussions but Park Orchards has agreed to clear the former top-10 draft pick.

The 26-year-old had kicked 35 goals in 13 games in his only season at the Eastern Football League Division 1 club but had been completing pre-season training at Wandin.

Park Orchards president Jeremy Thomas said the Sharks had granted Gorringe leave to continue his career at the AFL Outer East club.

Gorringe will also join ex-Park Orchards teammate Michael Fowkes at Wandin this season.

“We were happy to release Daniel because of the healthy relationships between our clubs. Disappointed to lose a friend … but this is the nature of local footy,” Thomas said.

“We came to a healthy outcome for all that will stay confidential.”

Wandin coach Nick Adam said it was a relief to have Gorringe at the club.

“He’s excited and we’re obviously excited to have him. It was good to get it done and Daniel and Park Orchards have come to an arrangement that they’re both really comfortable with,” Adam said.

“I was just really happy in how professional we were, Park Orchards were and Daniel was throughout the process. It was obviously drawn out but I think everyone gets to walk away with their heads held up.

“They didn’t want him to not play football and they’ve been pretty adamant about that the entire time and, you know, we probably would have been very similar if we were on the other end.

“He’s going to pull on the jumper now in Round 1 and he’s obviously a really, really good footballer and we’re excited to have him.”
