Adrian Gileno kicked 16 goals in East Burwood’s 213-point win over Kilsyth on Saturday.

But Rams coach Stuart Wynd may have robbed him of another handful.

“He was on the bench for the first six minutes of every quarter,” Wynd said.

“He hadn’t trained for a few weeks — he’d been overseas so I started him on the bench for the first six minutes of every quarter so he missed 24 minutes of game.

“There’s no doubt he would have kicked 20-plus I reckon.”

Wynd himself knows a few things about bags of goals — he kicked 19 in a Division 1 game in the early 2000s.

Gileno had seven goals by the main change and added another nine in the second half to kick the biggest bag in the Eastern Football League since Matthew Carnelley’s 24 against Nunawading in 2016.

Kilsyth’s only goal for the game came in the last quarter as East Burwood recorded its second 100-plus-point victory in as many games.

The 34.20 (224) to 1.5 (11) win continued to confirm pre-season suspicions the Rams would be the team to beat in Division 4 this year.

Its two wins this year have been by a combined 329 points, sitting atop the ladder with a percentage of 883.

East Burwood bolstered its midfield stocks with the addition of former players Matthew and Anthony Mariani over the summer, while Wynd noted Vermont junior Lewis Neate provided some strength to the spine at centre half-forward.

Wynd acknowledged expectations were growing on the club, which is striving for its first premiership since the 2000 Division 1 flag.

“There’s expectation for sure, more so from the supporters more than anything,” he said.

“We had a really good pre-season. We’re very fit, we’ve had 50 on the track every night and they’re hungry.

“Even the new guys that have come in are really hungry and looking for opportunities so there is certainly some competitiveness around the group

“The reserves are pretty strong — there are guys pushing up and the competition for spots is certainly pretty high.”
