EFL 2018: Rowville coach John Brown re-signs with Eastern Football League club for two more seasons

ROWVILLE has made some key re-signings as it prepares for a return to Eastern Football League finals.

FIRST-year Rowville coach John Brown will remain at Seebeck Oval until at least of the 2020 season after signing a two-year contract extension.

The Hawks have also re-signed prized recruits Ziggie Alwan and James Gwilt, who will continue as a playing assistant coach, after the pair crossed from Noble Park at the end of last year.

Captain Alex Frawley has also put pen to paper for 2019.

Brown will guide Rowville back to Eastern Football League finals after a disappointing 2017 that saw the Hawks log just five wins.

“If we can get the job done this Saturday, to have a season where we’re 12-6 and participating in finals is certainly a really good platform for where we want to head,” Brown said.

“We believe 2019 and 2020 are really big goals for us in terms of the development of our list and what we can really achieve over the next two to three years.”

Brown had previously coached Division 4 clubs Forest Hill, Park Orchards and Templestowe and also spent time at Vermont as an assistant before accepting the Rowville position.

Brown said the Hawks would look to add some more experienced players to their list in the off-season to support young talents Riley D’Arcy, Matt Traynor and Aaron Bond.

“In terms of personnel, we believe we’ve got a young talented list there, we probably need, I would suggest, A grade players with a lot of leadership,” he said.

“We do have a bit of an immature group in terms of their leadership so we’re looking for those 26, 27 year olds … not just purely the player, we need a quality leader or two to come into the club as well.

“There’s a couple of roles we want filled and we’ll go about making sure we get the right people.”
