SCORESBY scored its first finals win in seven years to book a semi-final date against undefeated Ringwood for the first place in the Division 3 grand final.

The Magpies put together one of their most complete and consistent performances of 2018 on Saturday to score a 49-point win over Boronia at East Burwood Reserve.

JETS SCORE ANOTHER FAMOUS FINALS WIN

REDBACKS STAR IN DOUBT FOR FINALS

Scoresby’s last finals victory came back in the 2011 Division 1 preliminary final before suffering the dreaded double relegation in 2014 and 2015, winning just three games in the two-year stretch.

But the Magpies are now just two wins away from claiming their first flag since 2006 and second premiership in 41 years after a 14.7 (91) to 6.6 (42) win over the Hawks.

Fittingly, Scoresby veteran Marc Williams was the star in the victory with a five-goal haul.

Williams played in the 2010 Division 1 grand final but missed the finals series the following year because of a broken ankle.

He has ridden the ups and downs as much as any other player or committee member over the past decade.

THE EFL CLUBS LOOKING TO END LONG FINALS DROUGHTS

“To be honest, 2014 it was very close to the club shutting the doors,” Williams said.

“We had a big meeting, I’d obviously signed at Boronia for two years but I went down to the meeting.

“I was always going to go back and finish at Scoresby but a fair few players came back and got us a team and they obviously struggled that year and got relegated.

“Goldy (coach Scott Goldsworthy) made an emphasis the other night that we can’t forget those blokes and all the people that put in a lot of effort for the club to make us go out there and play for the Scoresby footy club.”

Scoresby opened up a 20-point advantage by quarter-time and built on its lead at every change to finish with a famous win.

Williams said he had set himself for a big game.

“Every final you don’t know how far they are going to be between, so you obviously try and set yourself and put your best foot forward and I was glad to get out there and have a few kicks and play well,” he said.

“Most the year Hehiry (Dale Hehir) and Nathan Hicks have had all the accolades for the goalkicking, I sort of push up the ground a bit more and this week it was my turn I guess.

“I was just really happy to capitalise — I’ve been pretty inaccurate throughout the year.”

Scoresby will play Ringwood on Sunday, with the winner booking the first place in the grand final.
