EDFL: Why this could be Keilor’s greatest win
A huge weekend of EDFL action saw Keilor keep its perfect record alive and some are asking whether it’s the best in the club’s history. Here’s why.

Coaches will always tell you, they’ll worry about themselves and not the opposition.
Keilor’s win against Aberfeldie on Saturday was a perfect example as Mick McGuane and his coaching staff put a game plan in place which allowed them to secure a stunning EDFL Premier Division win.
The Blues did it without a host of frontline stars against one of the side’s who are the biggest threat to their premiership favouritism.
A 19.8 (122) to 11.4 (70) win which included an eight-goal to two final term had many pondering whether this was Keilor’s greatest win.
Blues assistant coach Scott Grigg stood in for McGuane in the usual social media Mick’s Minute segment and summed it up perfectly.
“What an amazing win here today, many are saying it’s probably the best win Keilor has ever had,” he said.
“Mick McGuane’s probably the one in a position to say that having coached since 2008. We focused on who we did have playing for us, others focused on who we didn’t.
“Mick and the coaches were able to put together a game plan throughout the week and it’s just credit to the players for executing exactly what we wanted to do for a long period of time.
“It was one of the best wins the Keilor boys have ever seen.”
The Blues led at every break as they kept their perfect record in season 2025 alive on the back of strong performances from ex-AFL players Corey Ellis and Josh Honey.
Ellis finished with 33 disposals while Honey kicked four goals.
Kyle O’Connor, Joel Sadler, Kade Long and Christian Olivieri were also named among the best.
Grigg said the game plan was simple.
“It was about getting the kicks off the line, it was a dirty ball, it was uncontested marks and we were able to frustrate Aberfeldie,” he said.
“There was a period where Aberfeldie came back at us but to their credit, a really inexperienced group, we had 27 player points against 39, and they responded.
“Our leaders led the way (and) the young kids followed. We did put it on the leaders and they got the job done.”
AIRPORT WEST KEEP TOUCH
In the only other Premier Division game of the weekend, due to the split round, Airport West prevailed by 26 points over Greenvale to keep touch with the top-five. It a free flowing contest, Hamish Morrison was named best afield for the Eagles while Luca Muratore was one of four players to kick three goals.
CRAIGIEBURN ALIVE
Craigieburn continued its good form with a win over Taylors Lakes in Division 1, running out 31-point victors. The Eagles set up the victory with a seven goal third term. Craigieburn now sits just one game and a percentage behind the Lions in the race for the top-five. Tadhg Boyle, Samuel Laffan, Blake Polley, Nathan Stewart, Luke Collins, and Benjamin Radford were named in the best.
HADFIELD’S BIG UPSET
Hadfield celebrated Steven Angus’ 300th game in style with a 26-point upset over Keilor Park in Division 2. Zac Polizzi was named the best player on the ground while Josh Trembearth was also impressive.
