EDFL: Samuel Paea stars for Aberfeldie against Keilor as Josh Misiti debuts

An Aberfeldie young gun is being tipped to play at a higher level after nine goals in his first two senior games as the son of a former Essendon midfielder debuted in a huge win.

Remember the name Samuel Paea.

The Aberfeldie young gun is a star on the rise after making a stunning start to his senior footy career with nine goals in just two games.

He finished with six majors in his side’s stunning 16.12 (108) to 8.8 (56) win over an understrength Keilor on Saturday afternoon as Abers made it back-to-back wins over quality opposition in less than a week.

Adam Marcon’s men had accounted for Avondale Heights on Anzac Day.

Paea is on Essendon’s VFL list and Marcon admits it’s hard to see him running out on the EDFL Premier Division for “much longer”.

“He’s a real talent and another one of our players who has come through the Abers pathway,” he said.

“I thought he was fantastic on Saturday and really built on his first up performance.

“Hopefully we see him at VFL level and possibly even higher if he continues to play the way he has started for us.”

Paea wasn’t the only young gun on show for Aberfeldie with Marcon fielding a side which included seven players with under five senior games experience.

They included Josh Misiti, Joey Dimasi and Michael Ktona — a group of close mates who all made their debuts.

Misiti, the son of former Essendon midfielder Joe, kicked the first goal of the game and finished the afternoon with three majors.

Dimasi was also able to hit the scoreboard.

“It was no surprise to see those boys come in and do a great job, I thought they were all super impressive,” Marcon said.

“It will give them some great confidence that they can stand up at the level.

“Playing your first senior game can be a daunting task and we made it our goal to make them feel included.

“When Josh kicked his first goal it was outstanding to see all of the boys get around him.”

Marcon believes everything finally “clicked” for his side on the weekend as a seven-goal to one third term help to put the game beyond doubt heading into the final change.

Big man Nick Meese thrived in Andrew Browne’s absence for Keilor with another stunning display.

Jack Binns, Victor Carboni, Sam Cattapan and Tye Browning were also impressive for Abers.

“I thought our performance was really good,” Marcon said.

“Before the weekend we had been grinding our wins and I don’t think we had clicked in our previous games. We played well in parts in the opening round against Maribyrnong Park but it wasn’t at the same level we showed on Saturday.

For Keilor, Nicholas O’Kearney was named best afield.

Jamie Papalia, Blair Wyllie, Kyle O’Connor, Matt Clark and Brad Xavier were the better players in a losing effort.

Aberfeldie will look to continue its winning ways when it travels to Glenroy as Keilor aims to bounce back against Avondale Heights.
