EDFL: Pascoe Vale and Ben Allan too good for Essendon Doutta Stars

A Pascoe Vale star produced the best game his coach has seen him play as a prized recruit showed off what he’s all about as the Panthers got back on the right track.

Pascoe Vale coach Digby Morrell has declared Ben Allan’s game on Saturday was the best he has seen from the star man since he arrived at the club.

Allan was a dominant force across the ground as the Panthers got back on the winners list courtesy of a 15.16 (106) to 6.15 (51) win over Essendon Doutta Stars in the EDFL’s Premier Division.

The star midfielder was named best on ground in a display which included three goals.

“It was the best game I’ve seen him play since I’ve been with the club,” Morrell said.

“He was absolutely everywhere and really helped us to break the game open in our favour.”

Morrell said the standards set by Allan were a reflection of what he had spoken about to his players following the loss to East Keilor in round two.

He said the last fortnight had given the group a chance to reset.

“We put in a really poor effort in our last game and lacked intensity,” he said.

“But we’re back where we want to be. The loss to East Keilor really stung and now our challenge is to close the gap between our best and worst footy.”

After leading my 20 points at the main break, the Panthers slammed on five goals to one in the third term to all but run away with the four points.

Matthew Watson, who finished with four goals, provided a strong target inside forward 50.

Prized off-season recruit Ozgur Uysal kicked his first goal for the club and finished with three for the afternoon.

“I thought both boys played a really strong game,” Morrell said.

“It was nice for Ozgur to get on the scoreboard and hopefully he can take some confidence from that moving forward.”

Matt Stillman, Julian Hemala and Michael Ross were also among Pascoe Vale’s better players.

For Doutta Stars, Sean McLaren, Campbell Wearne, Kyle Parsons, Dalton Comito, Declan Tully and Noah Smallacombe were named in the best.

The Panthers will travel to take on Greenvale in their next game, meanwhile, Doutta Stars will look for their first win against Avondale Heights.
