Two Essendon District Football League clubs have announced a sudden coaching change.

Deer Park premiership mentor Heath Scotland is on the move just weeks after securing promotion to Premier Division with the Lions after their first season in the competition.

Meanwhile, Rupertswood has confirmed Arron Bray has stood down from his role with former Gisborne coach Brad Fox quickly appointed into the top job confirming a smooth transition.

Deer Park confirmed it would search for a new coach in a social media post on Thursday night.

“After a successful 2023 campaign the Deer Park Football Club and Senior Coach Heath Scotland have decided to part ways,” a statement said.

“Heath has indicated he will be pursuing opportunities elsewhere regarding coaching in 2024 and the club will commence the search for a new senior coach shortly.

“Under Heath’s leadership, the club was able to achieve the ultimate prize in the EDFL Division 1 in 2023, its first year in this league.

“The club is grateful for Heath’s contribution and recognises the bond that will forever exist between premiership coach and club.

“Everyone at the club wishes Heath and his family all the very best for the future.”

Rupertswood confirmed Bray’s departure in a social media post on Thursday night.

He had originally re-signed for the 2024 season earlier this season.

“During my time at the club I have tried to expose as many of the younger players to senior footy in the EDFL and most have lived up to their potential,” Bray said in a statement.

“I would like to also thank the members for making myself and my wife (Jackie) welcome during our time at the club.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the players for the last 3 years and hopefully I have made some long life friends during this journey.

“I wish nothing but the best for the club moving forward and hope to return some day.”

Shortly after, the Sharks confirmed Fox had signed a deal to lead the club for the next three seasons.

Fox, a former AFL player with Essendon and Richmond, has a rich premiership history as a player and coach.

“With Skip’s (Bray) decision to step down, it was fortunate for the club to have someone with Brad’s experience available, so we moved quickly,” the club said.

“ As a committee, we have asked Brad to bring a strong development focus to support our young playing list.

“We have always produced terrific juniors at Rupertswood and we want to see as many as possible become 100-plus senior game players for the club and build a culture of sustained success.”
