Rick Munn appointed St Albans Football Club’s senior coach for the next three years

The Supersaints have unveiled its new senior mentor for the next three years — an assistant at a rival GFNL club.

Leopold assistant Rick Munn has been appointed as St Albans Football Club’s new senior mentor for the next three seasons.

Munn replaces Alex Tortora who announced his decision to step away at season’s end last month.

In a statement, the club said Munn had a strong ability to understand the GFNL’s footy landscape, modern strategies and his capacity to create strong relationships with the playing group.

“(Rick) made an impression throughout the interview process,” the club said.

“Rick is ready for a challenge and is aware that St Albans FNC have a strong vision of returning our great club to finals within the next three years.”

Munn has been a assistant defensive coach at Leopold this season under Garry Hocking and was also an assistant at Grovedale under Daniel Fraser.

Dedicated to youth development, Munn has also guided the Lions’ under-14s team into a grand final.

Munn has also been involved in several different leagues across the country, including at the Cairns Saints, Werribee in the VAFA and Wyndham Vale.

He was also part of the team which established the Point Cook Football Club, St Albans said.

The Supersaints said the role triggered plenty of interest and attracted “several quality applicants”.

“Our criteria in understanding the GFNL environment, attracting talent, retaining our existing players, and bringing new support staff with our ambitions to be finals contenders again, factored into our decision to appoint Rick into the role,” the club said.
