Alex Tortora announces he will leave St Albans

A third Geelong Football Netball League club has confirmed it will have a new senior coach in 2025. Here is what we know.

The Geelong Football Netball League coaching merry-go-round is continuing to spin.

St Albans have confirmed Alex Tortora will step down from the senior job after three years in charge at the end of the season.

Tortora’s impending departure follows announcements from Colac and Lara their respective coaches would not be seeking reappointment for the 2025 season.

“The St Albans Football & Netball Club would like to inform our members (and) supporters, that after considerable thought, Alex Tortora has decided to step down from his role of senior men’s football coach at the conclusion of the 2024 GFNL season,” the club said in a statement.

“During Alex’s three-year tenure at St Albans, he has shown genuine care, interest and passion for our player development on and off the field.

“We would like to acknowledge Alex’s dedication, and the stability he has brought to our club in recent times. We will now use this to build on the growth and success that the St Albans Football & Netball Club is ready for.

“Thank you to Alex for leading our club with such pride and belief.

“You and your family are forever part of the St Albans Football & Netball Club community.”

Tortora has overseen plenty of highs and lows during his stint at the club since taking over from Ben Patrick in 2022.

He saw the club end its 49-game winless run last season but the club is yet to taste success in season 2024.

If previous results are anything to go by this season, St Albans’ best chance of a win could come against Lara in the last round on August 31.

Totora’s side will travel to take on finals contender Bell Park this weekend.
