There are some surprise results in Premier Data’s overall rankings of the GFNL home-and-away season.

The top eight ranked performers across the season are all from non-finalists, with St Mary’s superstar Harry Benson coming in at ninth despite missing three games across the season.

Colac behemoth Zach Zdybel is head and shoulders above the rest, scoring 240 Premier Data ranking points more than any other player this season with 2590, averaging a jaw-dropping 152.4 in his 17 games.

The gun ruckman ranked first for clearances, second for contested possessions and second for hit-outs across the competition, finishing equal fifth in the Mathieson Medal count with 14 votes.

Newtown & Chillwell interceptor Braden Hocking is in second spot behind Zdybel, taking 32 more intercept marks than any other player with 95, also ranking first for marks, first for one percenters, second for spoils and third for rebound 50s.

North Shore duo Jacob Sammut-Miljevic and Nathan Arbon and Groveldae ruckman player Ryan Abbott — who averaged the second most ranking points per game behind Zdybel — round out the top-five.

Geelong West ball-magnet Tanner Lovell finished second in the Mathieson Medal and third for average ranking points with 140.3 per game, missing four GFNL games while playing with Geelong VFL.

Mathieson Medal winner Doyle Madigan was the 17th ranked player of the season for South Barwon

In his first GFNL season, the prolific Arbon amassed the second most disposals with 594 – behind St Albans young gun Fletcher Keck with 627 – took the third most marks, while Samut-Miljevic was in the top 10 for marks, contested possessions, and inside 50s.

Former Geelong and St Kilda player Abbott gave Grovedale silver service, winning the most hit-outs to advantage for the season.

Lara trio Dan Weigl, Bayley Cockerill and Connor Lineham-Cunningham, Newtown & Chillwell ball-winner Ned Harris and St Mary’s superstar Harry Benson — the winner of the Geelong Advertiser Coaches Player of the Year — secured top 10 ranked finishes according to Champion Data.

Weigl will be difficult to replace for Lara next year, moving to Bellarine club Geelong Amateur in 2025.
