Gary Rohan has made a decision on where he will play his footy next year after being delisted by Geelong. And his inspiration for the move was motivated by one thing.

Port Fairy president Rob Evans believes the signing of former Geelong and Sydney livewire Gary Rohan shows the hard work done to rebuild the club is now paying dividends.
And it’s turned them into a destination club for next year.
Rohan, who was delisted by the Cats at the end of this season, after 204 AFL games, has joined the Hampden league club on a one-year-deal.
His wife Madi is also joining the club to play netball.
And it was Madi who provided motivation for Rohan to join the club.
“Gary’s wife’s family has holiday accommodation at the caravan park,” Evans said.
“They spend a lot of time at Port Fairy. He could have went anywhere, he could have had much better financial offers but it’s come down to where he is at with his wife, his kids and his family.
“The fit was ideal for Gary and his children and his family for the next 12 months.”
Evans said attracting a player of Rohan’s talent comes back to the club gaining respect on and off the field over the past 24 months.
In 2022 the club was struggling, forced to forfeit seniors and reserves games t late in the season, which almost led to the end of the team.
Instead, it galvanised the club, and in 2023 and 2024 the team responded by rebuilding the side.
The focus is on taking the next step.
“Our rebuild period is over,” Evans said.
“We’re no longer in a rebuild period.
“We’re now heading into an era of success where we have a culture and behaviours that demand success in everything we do in the future.
“We’re now heading into a journey where we’re building a dynasty of a respectful, competitive football and netball club on and off the field.”
The team is also building one monster forward line for the competition.
Rohan will be joined in the forward line by Hampden league goalkicking legend Jason Rowan, who has kicked more than 1000 goals in his career, and a few other signings.
Port Fairy has also added Strahan Robinson from East Ballarat, who averaged two goals a game in the Ballarat league, and is training with the Geelong VFL team.
The Seagulls have also added James and Lucas Edmonds from Leopold.
“Things are falling into place for us and we believe we are in a good place,” Evans said.
“I’m sure collectively we all believe that it is reasonable to have a vision of us moving up the ladder.”
