Good Friday football is alive and well in the suburbs.
An impressive crowd descended on Greensborough War Memorial Park on Friday and the home team delivered, with a thumping 95-point win over Lower Plenty.
It wasn’t pretty at times as a determined Bears outfit showed it is far from a NFL Division 1 pushover but the Boro’s class showed after half-time as they finished convincing 23.17 (154) to 9.5 (59) winners.

Leading by 36-points at half-time Greensborough piled on nine goals to three in the premiership quarter to put the result to bed.
After an impressive Round 1 win over Montmorency, it was a big wake up call for newly promoted Lower Plenty, further soured by an ankle injury to star ruckman Patrick Flynn.
Boro coach Mick Harford couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season after a 113-point win over Hurstbridge in Round 1.
“I think that’s 23 goals both weeks, so that’s a massive improvement on the last couple of years,” he said.
“We are trying to score heavier to take the pressure off our back half.”
John Desmond was a standout in attack for Greensborough with three goals while Jacob Pickett, Charlie Molyneux and Liam Read were damaging through the midfield. Brody Tickell, Tristan Steed, Andrew Stellas and Pickett also booted three majors.
Lower Plenty more than held their own in the midfield but couldn’t break down the stingy Boro defence.
Harford was pleased with his midfield’s ability to win the ball back knowing tougher tests awaited.
“At times we got beaten in there but we were able to push the ball forward,” he said.
“I thought our mids worked hard, they didn’t have it all their own way.
“The ability for us to push the ball forward where we’re really dangerous. We’ve got plenty of talent down there.
“Lower Plenty go out and beat Montmorency Round 1 and then Mont beat Macleod.
“It’s going to be tough all year. Whoever we play, we’ve got to win. If we continue to win well and score heavily then we’ll be in a pretty good position most weeks.”
Josh Turner, Alden Meale, Darcy Barden and Cameron Elmore impressed for Lower Plenty while Ben Patterson was dangerous up front with three majors.
Bears coach Ben Turner was confident Flynn would be fit for next week’s trip to Bundoora.
