IT MIGHT have been terrible weather for footy on the weekend, but that didn’t stop one team kicking 54.29 on its way to a 347-point win in local footy — and that wasn’t even a league record.

YARRA Glen monstered its way to a 347-point win over an undermanned Thornton Eildon in their AFL Yarra Ranges Division 2 clash at home on Saturday, a club record score boosting its percentage by nearly 40 per cent on the eve of the finals.
The Thunder booted 54.29 (353) while holding the visitors to a solitary goal at the Yarra Glen Showgrounds.

Remarkably the mammoth total is just the fourth largest in league history.
Emerald’s 68.32 (440) against Boronia Park in 2000 tops the list while the Bombers are also responsible for the second highest score, recording 61.28 (394) against Marysville in 1983.
Wandin kicked 55.43 (373) against South Belgrave back in 1973 to sit at No.3.
Richard Gurney led the way with 12 goals while every player on the Yarra Glen team sheet managed to kick a goal before the final siren
The Thunder kicked 16 goals in the opening term, 18 in the second and five in third before finishing things off with 15 in the final quarter.
Thornton Eildon’s best-afield, Jarryd Scotland, booted his side’s only goal in the second term.
Despite the heavy weather, it was a day for high scoring around the division with ladder-leaders Seville managing 26.23 (179) to 2.2 (14) against Kinglake.
In other games, Alexandra hosted third-placed Yarra Junction and went down 7.19 (61) to 6.4 (40) while Gembrook Cockatoo had a 13.9 (87) to 9.15 (69) win at Yea.
Powelltown had the weekend off for the bye.
