Narre Warren champion Josh Tonna has called time on his illustrious career and Magpies president Stuart Stephenson couldn’t speak higher of him.
Tonna – the winner of five premierships at Kalora Park – felt his career was capped by winning a flag alongside his brother Mitch in Narre Warren’s 2022 triumph.
“He has set standards from his consistent and high-level football every week,” Stephenson said.
“You could always rely on him on his wing, he is humble and is one of the most skillful players to have played at Narre Warren.”
The smooth-moving wing was a contender for best afield credits in last season’s premiership, but it was a previous premiership that sits even more fondly with Stephenson.
“He’s a quietly spoken guy who developed some really good friendships off the field,” he said.
“He was a good sounding board for other wing, running players and the like.
“In his words he couldn’t have finished on a better note than winning a premiership with his brother Mitch, in the last couple of grand finals in really tough conditions that you wouldn’t have thought would’ve suited him, he was outstanding in both.
“I think his game against Berwick back in 2019 was one of the best games I have seen him play, he just owned that far wing at Pakenham.”
Along with his plethora of premiership medallions, Tonna was also a multiple best and fairest winner with the Magpies.
