Emerald pulled off one of the upsets of the season, knocking off third-placed Doveton as the Division 1 split round concluded on Saturday.
Buoyed by a guest appearance from former St Kilda star Stephen Milne, a young developing Emerald outfit led for most of the 100 minutes and picked up its fourth win of the year, 12.11 (83) to 10.11 (71).
Milne kicked two goals to lead the goalkickers with Jake Pedder (three) and Ty Ellison (two).
“It was a great win, the boys dug really deep,” coach Jamie Marshall said. “To come out against a really good side like Doveton, they (Emerald youngsters) should take lot out of it. So far we are ticking all the boxes.”

Marshall said Milne’s value on the day had gone far beyond kicking a couple of goals.
“Just his leadership out on the ground,” he said. “What he teaches the boys out there.”
Meanwhile, Mt Evelyn gave its finals chances a shot in the arm with a 14.12 (96) to 12.13 (85) win over Officer.
The Rovers are now fourth with a one game break on the fifth-ranked Officer.
LEADERS MAINTAIN ADVANTAGE

There was little in the contest early, the Eagles ahead by a solitary behind at quarter-time before unleashing a six-goal second quarter to open an unassailable lead.
Sam Morton bagged six for Yarra Junction while Daniel Chapman was best afield.
Kinglake sits one game back in third after a comfortable win at Alexandra, 18.12 (12) to 12.5 (77).
