T20 women chase record MCG crowd

Want to break a world record? Organisers want to #FillTheMCG and smash attendance numbers at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final – and they’ve enlisted pop superstar Katy Perry to help them do it. Here’s how you can get involved.

Our Twenty20 women’s cricketers are aiming for back-to-back World Cup titles when the tournament starts in Sydney on February 21.

Ten countries will do battle at grounds across Australia for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, culminating in the final at the MCG on March 8.

Pop superstar Katy Perry will perform at the blockbuster match, which also falls on International Women’s Day.

And organisers want to #FillTheMCG for the game, in a bid to smash the record — 90,185 — for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting event.

A free fan zone at Yarra Park on the weekend of the final will celebrate the best of Victoria with food, music and kid-friendly fun.

You can see the Aussies take on New Zealand at the Junction Oval on March 2 in a double header with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
