A man who allegedly bashed a woman in the face during a booze-fuelled outburst at a St Kilda bar last year has fronted court over a string of assault charges.

Jed Vanter, of St Kilda, is expected to plead guilty to the vicious November 12 attack which left his alleged victim with a shattered eye socket.

Jed Vanter allegedly shattered Casey Freeman’s eye socket in the attack.

Casey Freeman was on a night out with friends at The Vineyard on November 12 when Mr Vanter allegedly approached her table and tried to steal drinks belonging to her mates.

When a bartender asked Mr Vanter to move on from the popular Acland St venue about 1.10am, he allegedly “flipped out” and started attacking the bartender.

Ms Freeman was struck twice to the face while trying to break up the fight.

She spent five days in hospital and needed reconstructive eye surgery.

Lawyer Thomas Isaacs, acting for Mr Vanter, made a brief appearance in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 14 where the matter was adjourned to a later date.

The court heard Mr Vanter intended to plead guilty to affray and two counts of recklessly causing injury.
