With holidays to far-flung destinations likely off the cards for the foreseeable future, one Melbourne council has teamed up with accommodation providers and popular venues to encourage people to book at “staycation” instead.
Port Phillip Council has joined forces with the Australian Accommodation Association to launch a bundle of ‘Stay and Play’ packages, offering discounts and bonuses on selected venues and activities — from stand up paddle boarding to a day at Luna Park.
Port Phillip mayor Louise Crawford said the staycation deals were the perfect way to reset and recharge following a rough year.
“After a tumultuous 2020 and a disruptive start to 2021 due to COVID-19, our Stay and Play packages couldn’t come at a better time for those of us wanting a break,” she said.
“As many of our summer holiday plans have changed, a ‘holiday at home’ is the ideal way to take a break.
“There’s so much to do in our city and I’m sure some new discoveries will become firm favourites.”
There’s options to suit most tastes and budget — from a boutique hotels with all the trimmings to somewhere simple to rest your head after a busy day exploring.
“Australian Accommodation Association’s national general manager of strategic partnerships and membership Michelle King said the staycations were a hassle-free way to enjoy a time out from every day life “in a beautiful beachside setting”.
‘Play and Stay’ deals are offered directly through accommodation providers and are only available to guests.
Deals are valid until February 28, with more venues and activities to be added.
