VSDCA: Ormond matches pushed back after two players test positive to Covid

A ‘significant’ number of Ormond players is waiting for test results as the club is forced to push back two matches and abandon others.

Ormond says two of its players have tested positive to Covid.

Covid has hit the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association without a ball having been bowled to start the season.

Ormond has been forced to cancel all its senior games on Saturday after two players tested positive to the virus.

The Monders issued a statement on Wednesday night saying the EE Gunn Reserve clubrooms were a tier one site after a player was found to have Covid.

President Will Robertshaw said anyone who was at the ground for more than 15 minutes last Saturday – or at Cricket HQ in Moorabbin between 10am and 12.30pm on the same day – was classed as a close contact.

He said people who attended the rooms or cricket centre were required to self-isolate and get a Covid test.

Robertson said he had alerted the Department of Health and Human Services to the situation.

Last night the club said a “significant number’’ of players had yet to receive their test results and some might not get them until tonight (Friday) or Saturday morning.

It said two players had now tested positive to the virus.

“Given the announcements earlier today by the Department of Health and Human Services, restrictions and Covid-19 protocols have changed,’’ the club said.

“The updated restrictions … clarify that those who were in attendance at either the EE Gunn Reserve clubrooms on Saturday, November 13, Cricket HQ in Moorabbin between 10am-12.30pm on the same day or those who attended training on November 16 for more than a 15-minute period, will only need to isolate until they produce a negative test result.’’

The Ormond clubrooms are off limits until they can be cleaned.

A cleaning company will arrive on Monday.

Ormond’s First and Second XI matches against Malvern will be pushed back to a VSDCA reserve day of Sunday, February 20.

The Third and Fourth XI matches against Oakleigh will be abandoned.

The Subbies were supposed to start the season last Saturday but wet weather intervened.

All other matches on the fixtures will go ahead on the weekend.

VSDCA secretary Ken Hilton has been contacted for comment.
