Shaheen Waheed and Marc Andrews’ meth trafficking exposed

Two crooks, including one dubbed “Superfly” in drug circles, trafficked ice and heroin from a “safe house” in St Kilda that was protected by explosive devices that could be remotely detonated.

Head of the drug operation Shaheen Waheed, dubbed “Superfly”, has copped nine-and-a-half years for his role in the offending.

A crook dubbed “Superfly” and his accomplice have been jailed following the discovery of a frightening collection of deadly weapons and large scale drug trafficking in St Kilda.

Shaheen Waheed, 48, unemployed of St Kilda and 45-year-old Richmond man Marc Andrews

appeared for sentencing in the County Court on Tuesday after earlier pleading guilty to a string of offences.

Both men were arrested during a series of drug raids that uncovered items including meth, heroin, ballistic vests hidden in wardrobes and drawers, a collection of guns, ammunition, knives and knuckle dusters from a “safe house” both men rented in St Kilda in July 2022.

Waheed was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years’ imprisonment and Andrews eight years.

Judge Andrew Palmer said Waheed and Andrews trafficked an estimated 2500 grams of meth— 10 times the commercial quantity— and about 500 grams of heroin from the rental property.

Police also recovered $57,680 cash, a 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, a pipe bomb with a remote detonation distance of 1km and another with a remote detonation distance of 200m.

Waheed was arrested at his St Kilda East house and police found $1.4 grams of meth while Andrews was nabbed not far from his Richmond house.

A telescopic baton, 523 grams of meth, heroin, 1-4 butanediol and $28,550 cash were recovered from his house.

Waheed was the head of the drug syndicate while Andrews received orders and did the packaging.

Waheed and Andrews pleaded guilty to trafficking in a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and heroin, trafficking in testosterone and other drugs, dealing with the proceeds of crime and possession of a shotgun and a pipe bomb.

Andrews also admitted to charges of trafficking and possession of meth, and possession of 1,4 butanediol and heroin while Waheed is facing an additional charge of possession of meth.

Waheed used various nicknames such as “Super Fly, Supe O Fly and Ginger Cakes” in encrypted text messages between him and others connected to the crimes.

Judge Palmer said Waheed gained financially from the drug dealing but not to the extent of enjoying a lavish lifestyle.

Waheed will be eligible for parole in seven years and Andrews after serving five years.

Lara Domajnko was also arrested in the drug raid and sentenced to a good behaviour bond on a charge of dealing with proceeds of crime.

Waheed’s then “on again, off again” girlfriend Lara Domajnko was also arrested in the raid and was caught with meth and 1,4 butanediol, cash and designer handbags.

She claimed $7500 stashed in a hidden book was her daughter’s “savings”.

Domajnko was sentenced in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in April to a good behaviour bond after she was found guilty of dealing with proceeds of crime.
