Seven members of Grant family in Old Brighton Grammarians VAFA women’s team

Essendon’s famous four Daniher brothers all played together but that’s nothing compared to this family which boasts seven of its members in the same team.

SEVEN is an interesting number; there are seven dwarfs, seven deadly sins, seven Harry Potter books and seven members of the same family involved with the Old Brighton Grammarians women’s team.

Legendary Old Brighton footballing clan, the Grants, are keeping footy all in the family with two brothers and their five daughters leading the team’s charge towards finals.

Coach Peter Grant and his brother, assistant coach Andrew, are charged with preparing a side which includes Peter’s daughters, captain Madeleine, 27, and her two sisters Emily, 24, and Sophie, 21, and Andrew’s daughters, Katie, 21, and Annie, 18.

FOOTY CLUB TO LOSE SPONSORSHIP AFTER COUNCIL AD BAN

FATHER BOB LEADS HUNT FOR PREMIERSHIP HEROES

Peter and Andrew, along with another brother Tony, played more than 550 games and won multiple premierships and best and fairests.

Peter said it was satisfying he could continue to be involved with the club “at a different level”.

“The wheels have definitely turned but we’re proud the Grant footballing heritage can live on with our daughters,” Peter said.

“We’re very passionate about giving females — not just our daughters — a chance to play football as it’s an important growth step for the club.

“Old Brighton having a female football team is important as it adds another dimension towards being a really good community club which is what we strive for.”

Peter said he was shocked when the girls wanted to play footy as they had grown up being more into netball and swimming.

BIG V PREVAIL AT SANDY

“Once the opportunity to play footy came up they jumped at it and we wanted to support them,” Peter said.

“Game day can get bit confusing on the team board and when they kick goals though.”

Andrew’s youngest daughter Lucy is “highly likely” to play next season as if seven Grants wasn’t enough.
