IMPROVING public transport and cutting cost-of-living pressures were some of the big issues to come from candidates standing for Nepean at the November 29 state election.
Six candidates have nominated for the Nepean electorate, made up of candidates from the major parties and the Greens, Rise Up Australia, Australian Country Alliance and an independent.
Nepean state Liberal MP Martin Dixon said cost of living was important.
Mr Dixon said the Coalition had a range of plans to reduce the cost-of-living pressures such as the $100 kinder rebate and senior citizen concessions.
“Being in a position with a healthy economy now and better governance, we can provide rebates to reduce the cost of living for businesses and individuals and families,” Mr Dixon said.
Victorian Labor candidate Carolyn Gleixner said Labor would fix public transport.
“There’s no point having all of these other things if you don’t have proper transport to give people the chance to get a job,” Ms Gleixner said.
“Most of the people in the electorate have to travel outside the area for employment.”
Greens candidate Craig Thomson agreed.
“I think public transport is what I have been hearing a lot about, the lack of regular bus services down here,” Mr Thomson said.
“Greater public transport is needed, particularly in this area.”
