Popular St Kilda pub The Espy dishes up school holiday program

Sick of the cries of “mum (or dad), I’m bored”? This popular St Kilda pub’s school holiday program could be the answer. Here’s what your little ones can get up to next week while you kick back with a coffee (or cocktail) and a bite to eat.

Stuck for ways to keep the kids entertained during the school break? Why not take them to the pub?

Popular St Kilda haunt The Espy will welcome a different crowd of revellers next week as part of a free school holiday program.

While you wouldn’t have dared to drag your kids along to The Espy 10 years ago, today it’s a different story.

Over three days the beloved 140-year-old watering hole will transform into a kid-friendly wonderland with a range of activities to keep the little ones entertained while parents kick back with a coffee (or cocktail) and a bite to eat.

The rotating roster of headline events includes a silent disco, magic show, hip hop party, giant Jenga and Connect 4 games and a jumping castle in the iconic Gershwin Room.

There will also be face painting, hopscotch and a colouring corner.

And for less than $20 budding mini masterchefs can sign up to exclusive under-18s cooking lesson, including a pizza party and a dumpling masterclass with Mya Tiger.

These hands on workshops allow kids to experiment with different recipes while they learn about the cooking process and, of course, enjoy the finished product.

Activities are recommended for children aged six to 12 and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The free events run from 10am to noon, with the pub closed to the general public during this time.
