COMMUTERS will have more places to park at Mordialloc and Parkdale train stations if the Coalition Government is re-elected next month.
Premier Denis Napthine made the $3 million election pledge this morning, saying the car park upgrades at both stations would help meet the increase in demand for train services brought about by the new X’Traplois trains on the Frankston line.
The money would also upgrade the railway pedestrian crossing at Parkdale station to automatic gates and full accessibility standards.
“Since coming to Government we have added 191 additional weekly services to the Frankston Line and improved punctuality from around 68 per cent under the previous Labor government to more than 90 per cent under the Coalition,” Dr Napthine said.
“We have also introduced PSOs to stations and are currently rolling out a $115 million upgrade on the Frankston line.”
Minister for Roads and Public Transport Terry Mulder said the stations were used by nearly 4000 people each week.
“We will work with the City of Kingston to provide upgraded parking and increased spaces on Crown Land that is adjacent to these two stations,” Mr Mulder said.
“Works to provide sealed surfaces, lighting and CCTV will commence in 2015 under a re-elected Coalition Government.”
Mordialloc state Liberal MP Lorraine Wreford said the new car parks were great news for the community.
“These new car parks will not only encourage more people to use public transport, they will also make the stations far more user-friendly.”
Leader is awaiting a response from Labor.
